A couple of weeks ago, before 2021 came to an end, we went to the dining room “Como en Casa”, in San Martin, in order to carry out recreational activities with the children and play before the holidays. We baked cookies and gifts, as well as delivered the food collected so that 200 families could spend Christmas and New Year’s Day happily. Special thanks to Allkom for their valuable contribution.

A few days ago, the Florence Nightingale Committee gave a theoretical and practical workshop ”Embroidering our rules” to CADENA volunteers in different regions of the world: Cadena Colombia, Cadena Argentina and Cadena South Africa. This workshop aims to combat menstrual poverty that currently affects millions of women in all countries. According to UN data, it is estimated that 1 in 10 girls miss school during menstruation, causing conflicts in their development, empowerment and exercise of rights, such as access to education. Menstrual poverty is the lack of access to information, products, and safe and hygienic conditions related to menstruation. Throughout the training for South African women, 3 main topics were addressed: menstruation from a medical and psychological perspective, and the empowerment of women through menstruation. Finally, an explanation was given on how to make their own ecological menstrual pads. We continue to improve realities around the world.

We arrived to Bajo Alegre, in Santiago del Estero, a town with precarious houses and dirt roads. We came to talk with the people, to see and listen to what they need in order to help them. They shared with us many problems, such as the lack of work and decent housing. With the little income they have, it is not enough to buy food everyday, that is why The CADENA team brought donations to start a soup kitchen in the neighborhood. We concluded that there is a lot of work ahead. You can always join us and help us to change this reality.

The teams of the Enfoque contest continue to work and train and, as a part of their project, they visited different settlements where CADENA carries out its work to observe and contextualize everything learned in the meetings.

We have a great commitment to the people who need our help. Those who have unmet basic needs, and who can greatly benefit from our work. In this case, and thanks to donations from @chinapass, we were able to deliver cold weather kits to homeless people. These kits included ponchos, thermos, backpacks, and infusions for these cold days in Argentina. To maintain the support and accompaniment, we managed to form alliances with businesses in the area so that those who come with the CADENA thermos are provided free hot water at all times. Whenever we can, and whenever it is within our reach, we will do everything possible to help those who need us.

Together with @datumorg, #Gazana, @gumargentina, and the Faculty of Dentistry, we visited Villa 21.24 to deliver toothbrushes, toothpastes and dental floss, as well as gauze for the medical center of the place. We are very grateful to the people who accompany us, help us, and make it possible for us to reach the places where we are needed.

During cold and rainy days, concerns arise when we think about how, while we have the possibility and luck of finding ourselves in a warm and protected place, there are people on the streets for whom these days are critical. CADENA, in joint work with Acilba and an entire team of volunteers, confectioned ponchos to deliver to those who need it the most in this harsh winter. Thank you to the ones who made this beautiful action possible! Let’s continue building this chain.

The CADENA Youth carried out its first humanitarian intervention. It took place in the El Gomero dining room, where they delivered food that they cooked in their own homes to homeless people. They also shared a beautiful chat with its founder, Carlos (@comedor.barrancas.de.belgrano). Thank you for being part of this chain of help! Note: the activity was carried out prior to the new circulation restrictions.

As a part of the gender and diversity program that we carry out at CADENA, we delivered reusable feminine pads in the “Lo de Cata” dining room. We also taught them the system so that they can produce them, we carried out training on feminine hygiene and provided them with the necessary materials. On the International Day of Social Action for Women’s Health, it is important to make visible the essentiality of education and help on these cases. There are many women who do not have the resources or knowledge to properly care for themselves in these situations. We will continue working to accompany them and provide them with the necessary materials. We are happy with what we can achieve as a team! Note: the activities were carried out prior to the restrictions established by the government.
