On Sunday, December 5, CADENA’s team visited the community of Chimalhuacán, in the State of Mexico, where we were able to provide assistance to a large number of people. Medical and dental consultations and mastographies were carried out for people who did not have them. We are particularly grateful to FUCAM A.C. for providing the mastographies and being with us during the whole process.
A few days ago, the Florence Nightingale Committee gave a theoretical and practical workshop ”Embroidering our rules” to CADENA volunteers in different regions of the world: Cadena Colombia, Cadena Argentina and Cadena South Africa. This workshop aims to combat menstrual poverty that currently affects millions of women in all countries. According to UN data, it is estimated that 1 in 10 girls miss school during menstruation, causing conflicts in their development, empowerment and exercise of rights, such as access to education. Menstrual poverty is the lack of access to information, products, and safe and hygienic conditions related to menstruation. Throughout the training for South African women, 3 main topics were addressed: menstruation from a medical and psychological perspective, and the empowerment of women through menstruation. Finally, an explanation was given on how to make their own ecological menstrual pads. We continue to improve realities around the world.

We visited the Eudes Foundation for an entire day, a place full of children, where we had the opportunity to share different recreational activities together. We also gave them coloring books and toys, and ended the day enjoying a delicious snack. Definitely, their joy and gratitude filled our souls. We changed realities, all together.
The team of volunteers from CADENA Youth held a Welcome Fair for refugee children from the Refugee House Program. Activities included typical Mexican activities with a cultural twist, such as a lottery with modifications to include typical food from their countries of origin. We also carried out activities that promote recycling, such as ball-and- stick with recycled PET bottles. Finally, we danced to the sound of mariachis. At the same time, our volunteers talked with the adults, who shared stories about their transition from their countries of origin to Mexico. We performed integration activities and shared aspects of Mexican culture for the children who now call Mexico home. Congratulations!
Together with the Limón Municipal Emergency Commission, we provided support in visiting different educational centers with a shortage of drinking water. Through an important donation of a water collection system, storage tanks, Israeli technology water filters and cleaning and protection implements against the threat of Covid-19; we were present in Limón for the second time, following up on the last flood and natural disaster experienced in the area. Thank you very much to all those involved!

We made a trip to the municipality of Guaranda, which was hit hard by the rains and the breaking of the dam on the Cauca River. Thousands of families lost their homes under water. These people lost everything: we were there to provide them with assistance and support. We want to thank in a special way the team of volunteers, the Colombian Civil Defense, and Start Network.

We are proud to share with you that ILAN Israel Foundation – Latin American Network, which promotes social impact through innovation, strengthening ties between Latin America and Israel, honored us with the Shimon Peres Award in the category of Peace, given to that person or institution that through a truly innovative project, promotes fraternity and has humanitarian work aimed at the development of Human Rights, contributing to the promotion of this principle, in order to improve the quality of life of people. We are grateful for this great honor, which encourages us to continue on our path to make this world a resilient and equitable place for all.
Continuing the project initiated with Axa Mexico and ARISE MX on resilient communities, in this third stage, which deals with training, CADENA gave workshops focused on resilience building and risk analysis in the communities of Palmito Verde, Cristo Rey and Empacadora Bedolla. We were able to reach La Concha, a community heavily impacted by Hurricane Pamela. There, the psychosocial team conducted a group session with people from the community who had lived through this disaster. The training was given to 110 people; we didn’t form a resilience brigade of 100 people. At the same time, 500 resilience books, 500 flood prevention comics and 80 posters of GIRD and floods were distributed. We want to give a special thanks to Volaris for the flights and to Mitsubshi Motors De Mexico for the transportation.
