Humanitarian intervention in Sierra Tarahumara

By CADENA

Axis: Humanitarian Action

Office: Mexico

Every year, CADENA Mexico provides support in the Sierra Tarahumara, Chihuahua.
An area that faces minimum temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and constant drought cycles.
Year after year, the population living in the Sierra region must deal with life-threatening situations such as the spread of diseases and the lack of access to water and food.
Situations caused by the levels of social and economic vulnerability that the Raramuri community has systematically experienced as a native population.

This intervention was of utmost importance as it was also part of the CADENA Youth program, which seeks to educate young people through an educational cycle focused on all stages of humanitarian aid. From January 20 to 23, 2023, with the support of volunteers and the collaboration of various agencies, we delivered aid hand to hand, benefiting 3,000 families, totaling 10,800 people benefited directly. In total, we delivered 15 tons of food and 6,000 blankets, in addition to the implementation of medical brigades for people in vulnerable situations.

We thank Brigada Cheyenne, La Norteñita, the Chihuahua Food Bank, the Sisters of the San Carlos Clinic, as well as the Municipal Presidency of Batopilas and the medical team at the San Carolos clinic in Norogachi for their nursing services and Spanish-Raramuri translation. Finally, we recognize the work of CADENA Youth, whose training is essential to repairing the world.
