Axis: Humanitarian Action
Office: International
On September 8, 2023 an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 affected the area of Marrakech in Morocco, causing structural damage to homes and hospitals. CADENA International was deployed to respond to the needs of the population. In coordination with Monday.com and local non-governmental organizations, our team visited four communities in the region of Asni to carry out a damage and needs assessment. With this, we decided to respond immediately to the unmet needs of the population.
We responded in the areas of food security, distributing non-perishable food packages collected by the civil society of Marrakech. We distributed solar lamps to the camps we encountered during our visit and installed community water filters to prevent the consumption of contaminated water. Finally, we distributed disposable menstrual management towels in the camps where the refugees were staying. In total, we delivered: 300 food pantries, 1,500 toys, 100 solar lamps, 500 items of clothing, 50 community water filters and 1,000 disposable menstrual management towels, benefiting 4,890 people.
