Humanitarian Intervention in Zea

By CADENA

Axis: Rescue and Immediate Response

Office: Venezuela

From January 15 to 19, CADENA Venezuela deployed a humanitarian intervention in Zea in the state of Merida. This humanitarian intervention was aimed at responding to a community affected by torrential rains in the region. The community of Zea was highly neglected as the local authorities did not have the capacity to respond to this crisis. We responded in collaboration with Start Network, HelpAge International, Convite AC and Meals for Hope, benefiting 613 families.

Our general volunteers participated in this intervention and we hand delivered the following aid: 610 bags of food, a sodium hypochlorite machine as a water purification system, 610 bottles with hypochlorite, 240 water storage tanks, 2 refurbished water pumps, a water supply hose kit, 1,000 mattresses, 1,800 blankets, 400 pairs of rubber boots, 400 machetes and 400 shovels. We also implemented a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) workshop in which 360 people participated.

During this immediate response intervention we highlighted the achievement of the rehabilitation of water pumps for two communities and the reestablishment of the water system in the community. We also highlighted the support to the elderly and people with disabilities, as we responded by bringing aid directly to their homes, with the support of complete logistics and transportation to facilitate access.
