Axis: Humanitarian Action
Office: Panama
From June to October 2023, CADENA Panama provided support to people in mobility situations through the construction of a warehouse where we housed merchandise dedicated to helping those passing through the Temporary Migratory Reception Station in Los Planes de Gualaca. Panama is a key point in the migratory route and Central America is characterized as a migratory corridor for people transiting to the north, which is why help in these cases is vital.
With the support of two facilitators and our volunteers, we were able to collect donations in the capital and carry out the daily operation of the Migrant Attention Point. In this 20-foot container, we personally attended to each case and delivered more than 7,000 shoes, 8,000 pieces of clothing, 6,000 hygiene items and 1,500 backpacks to the most vulnerable people. We estimate that from the end of June to the beginning of October, we provided support to more than 15,000 people who crossed this migratory corridor. During these four months we responded to one of the biggest crises that has affected the population in mobility.
