Axis: Reconstruction
Office: Colombia
CADENA Colombia implemented a well rehabilitation and reconstruction project in La Guajira to address the lack of access to drinking water that has affected Wayuu communities for decades. This project began in December 2023 and will continue until 2024, in order to achieve our main objective: to provide sustainable access to drinking water, improving the quality of life within the communities. As well as addressing the needs of communities that have been historically marginalized and generating projects that recognize their autonomy and independence.
In collaboration with HelpAge, Goal, Save the Children, World Vision and Convite, we have rebuilt 12 wells, benefiting approximately 7,500 people. These wells are equipped with efficient systems, which ensure a constant supply of drinking water. To strengthen our support, we have implemented community training programs to promote the proper use of water. More than just access to drinking water, this project has had a significant impact on the health, hygiene and well-being of the Wayuu communities, boosting their socioeconomic and educational development. Now the communities of Ichichón, Mapashira, Santa Clara, Isachimana, Alusirra, Juluwaipa, La Paz and Campamento will have constant access to drinking water, a major step towards ensuring more dignified environments.
