Axis: Prevention and Sustainable Development

Office: Panama

In December 2023 CADENA Panama deployed a humanitarian intervention in Corregimiento, Las Margaritas, Chepo. Hand in hand with the community, CADENA volunteers and CADENA staffWe installed a rainwater collection system in the community house in the village of Las Margaritas. This space also serves as a meeting room for the entire community, as a community shelter in case of emergency, as a preschool educational center (CAIPI) and as a church. The community now has access to a water system with a capacity of 5,000 liters of clean water.

This project is a joint effort with the National Protection System (SINAPROC) and the Ministry of Development (MIDES) so that vulnerable communities can have access to water, which in turn generates resilience and independence to respond to emergencies without depending on third parties. In addition, with COMASA’s support, we were able to benefit the 500 families that use the community center and the 7,000 people who live in the community.
