CADENA initiative: social innovation and youth leadership with a cause

By CADENA

On May 20, the National Final of CADENA Initiative, the educational program of CADENA, the humanitarian arm of the Jewish community, which promotes social innovation from the youth, took place. Throughout several months, high school students from different schools in the country participated in an educational process to design and present proposals that respond to real social and humanitarian problems from their environment.

This program, which embodies the values of Tikkun Olam: repairing the world through action, seeks to sow in the new generations a leadership with a cause, committed and empathetic.

In this edition, 11 teams participated with projects focused on topics such as mental health, recycling, ecological housing, energy in emergency contexts, support for the elderly and child welfare. Each initiative was developed by the students themselves, with the support of mentors and facilitators, using a methodology focused on empathy, feasibility and local impact.

The event was held at the Sephardic Community of Mexico. Their support was key to carrying out this educational event, which allowed us to showcase the talent, creativity and commitment of young people who not only imagine solutions, but also work to make them a reality.

This year’s winning team was Plasticotton, a proposal that seeks to transform plastic bottles into textile yarn, thereby reducing waste pollution and water consumption in the fashion industry. Their initiative was selected for its environmental focus, technical clarity and application potential. They will represent Mexico at the CADENA Initiative International Final, to be held in Bogota, Colombia, June 5-8.

Iniciativa CADENA is part of the commitment of our organization -which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary- to the formation of youth leaders who respond actively, creatively and in solidarity to the challenges of the world. Because helping can also be learned, and from education, change is built.

CADENA invites more schools, teachers, families and allies to join this project that transforms concern into action.
