CADENA COLOMBIA VOLUNTEERS AROUND THE WORLD
Being a volunteer at CADENA Colombia is not only a local experience: it’s also a gateway to taking part in international humanitarian interventions alongside our global allies.
Our volunteers, Samuel Serrano, Juan Esteban Ortiz, and María Jaramillo, joined the CADENA International team in Davao Oriental, the Philippines, participating in a humanitarian intervention after the earthquakes that struck the region in October. There, they helped over 7,000 people through access to safe water, psychosocial support, and shelter reinforcement.
And back on our continent, our volunteers Steven Rozen and Camilo Pardo partook in an intervention led by CADENA International in response to the emergency caused by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.
NEW WATER WELL IN LA GUAJIRA
We have begun the construction of a new water well in the community of Wamayao, Maicao, La Guajira.
This project was born from fieldwork and commitment to sustainable solutions. This well is not just infrastructure: it means access and health for over 1,000 people who will soon have clean and safe water.
At CADENA, we believe that real change is possible when communities are part of the process. Because of this, each well we build is accompanied by community strengthening and education on water, hygiene, and sustainability.
HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION IN CHOCO
In November, the municipality of Choco was affected by heavy rains.
In response to this situation, at CADENA Colombia, alongside Start Network, Fundación PLAN, and World Vision Colombia, we assisted 6,000 families facing this emergency.
We deployed our team in rural communities in Quibdó, which is populated mainly by Afro Colombian and Embera Indigenous families.
This intervention focused on five main lines of action:
- Food distribution (food security)
- Distribution of WASH kits (water, sanitation, and hygiene)
- Basic health care
- Protection with a gender perspective
- Recreational activities for children
