RESPONSE TO FLOODS IN SANTA MARTA

On Sunday, August 3rd, Santa Marta was hit by torrential rainfall, with 155 mm of rain falling in less than four hours. The drainage system collapsed, streams overflowed, and over 60 neighborhoods were placed under orange alert, from Pescaito to Alto Delicias and Los Fundadores, affecting roads, homes, and basic services.

CADENA, in immediate coordination with emergency organizations, arrived at the most severely affected municipalities within 48 hours to deliver essential supplies such as water, solar lamps, and food.

BENPOSTA PROJECT

This year, at CADENA Colombia’s Florence Nightingale Committee, we began a process to educate and raise awareness about menstrual health and menstrual poverty, aiming to spark urgent conversations on a historically overlooked issue.

These sessions address menstrual care and management, as well as topics related to gender protection, family, and the importance of safe environments for children and teenagers. Through these spaces, we seek to help children recognize their rights, identify normal and abnormal situations, and learn to protect themselves against violence or harm.

This initiative was developed alongside Benposta, an institution that focuses on protecting the rights of vulnerable children and teenagers, many of whom come from regions affected by armed conflict, have lost their parents, or have been relocated by their families to avoid their forced recruitment.
