Chile

In 2010, an earthquake and a tsunami struck Chile. In the aftermath of this disaster, CADENA reached the country to offer help onsite. Years later, in 2017, we opened our first office in Santiago de Chile, which has grown over time. Now, CADENA is recognized by the government as one of the NGOs that respond to emergencies and humanitarian crises, by actively participating with working groups and coordinating onsite assistance. By doing so, we strive to better help affected families.

Why are we located in Chile?

Chile is located between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains. This makes it a territory highly susceptible to a variety of phenomena, including earthquakes, fires, intense rains, landslides, great droughts, and volcanic eruptions. On the other hand, the country has a large number of vulnerable populations without appropriate protection and risk management systems.

This combination of factors means that our work has to take place on multiple fronts, although our focus at the moment is attending emergencies and coordinating preventive measures.

Chile is also a destination country for people who have gone through forced displacements and for people on the move, which makes this country a center for humanitarian response to the migration crisis.
