VENEZUELA: RECOVERY CONTINUES AFTER THE EARTHQUAKES

Over a month has passed since two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela and changed the lives of thousands of families. CADENA International activated its emergency response from the very beginning, supporting search and rescue efforts, and is now in a second phase focused on the recovery of affected communities.

Work on the ground has included access to safe water, psychosocial support, the distribution of tools, and the delivery of food and essential items through partnerships with Food for the Poor, Fundación Postobón, World Jewish Relief, Tramontina, Grupo Éxito, Fundación Éxito, HelpAge, Awesome Cargo, Alimenta la Solidaridad, and Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad, among other allies.

To date, more than 52 tons of relief supplies have been collected and transported, and more than 150 people have received psychosocial support.

CADENA will continue to stand with Venezuela, hand in hand, throughout every phase of the response.

HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE IN PUTUMAYO, NARIÑO, AND CAUCA

Armed conflict in Linares, Puerto Guzmán, Puerto Leguízamo, Santander de Quilichao, Corinto, and Suárez left entire communities in vulnerable situations.

Through CADENA Colombia, we responded by providing food packages, hygiene kits, safe spaces, and psychosocial support for affected families, as well as blankets and essential items for those who lost their homes.

This response was made possible thanks to Start Network and the Embassy of Germany in Colombia, through the Start Fund, in a consortium led by CADENA alongside Save the Children and Alianza por la Solidaridad – ActionAid Colombia.

WELL-BEING DAY FOR OLDER ADULTS IN LA MATICANA

CADENA was present at Finca La Maticana, in the rural area of Usme, a space where older adults from the local farming community with limited resources gather for recreational activities.

During the event, we distributed kits and refreshments and shared a recreational afternoon with a game of bingo. A total of 50 older adults participated, 35 women and 15 men, accompanied by five members of the CADENA volunteer team.

HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION IN LA GUAJIRA

As part of Anticipatory Actions for the El Niño phenomenon, CADENA supported the Mapashirra community in La Guajira by rehabilitating its water supply system, which had been out of service for more than two months, affecting more than 250 families who had to travel over an hour to access water.

We cleaned the well, replaced the submersible pump, upgraded the water treatment system, and provided the community committee with information on the responsible use of water.
