STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE IN SAYAXCHÉ, PETÉN

On June 16 of this year a capacity building workshop on community resilience was held for the staff of CADENA CJG’s National Office and its Community Initiative volunteers in Sayaxché, Petén. This activity is part of a series of workshops that seek to strengthen the team’s skills in different departments of the country.

The workshop addressed key topics such as the community resilience model for strengthening multiple local systems and disaster risk management and preparedness, as well as specific strategies for risk reduction in agriculture. Participants also shared lessons learned to promote a culture of prevention and improve the response to crisis or emergency situations in their communities, strengthening the impact of our humanitarian work.

CIPREVICA AND CJG CHAIN STRENGTHEN ALLIANCES FOR VIOLENCE PREVENTION IN GUATEMALA

We are excited to share great news: we have signed a Letter of Understanding with the Research Center for the Prevention of Violence in Central America (CIPREVICA). This alliance represents a significant step in our commitment as the humanitarian arm of the Jewish Community of Guatemala, reaffirming that when we join forces with purpose, we can generate real and lasting change.

Together with CIPREVICA we will work in training, education and prevention programs, with a special focus on the defense and promotion of the human rights of children, youth and communities in vulnerable situations. We are guided by the value of Tikum Olam, the mission to repair the world, and we do it with empathy, action and commitment to a more just, supportive and resilient society.

STRENGTHENING TIES WITH THE MEDIA IN OUR HUMANITARIAN WORK
In order to create strategic alliances and inform about our humanitarian work, CADENA, the humanitarian arm of the Jewish Community of Guatemala, held an informative meeting with representatives of different media. It was a space for dialogue where we shared the pillars of our organization, our mission, the achievements we have reached and the challenges we face in providing support to communities in vulnerable situations.
The meeting was attended by Karla Paz, our Executive Director; Verónica Levy, President of CADENA CJG; Byron Cifuentes, Director of Humanitarian Operations; and Ilan López, Executive Director of the Jewish Community of Guatemala. Through these actions we continue to build bridges of collaboration and communication to strengthen the impact of our work and reach further and further in our mission to help those who need it most.

WE PARTICIPATED IN A NATIONAL WORKSHOP TO STRENGTHEN ANTICIPATORY ACTION IN EMERGENCIES
As an active part of the Guatemala Hub, CADENA CJG participated on June 27th in the national workshop for the validation and approval of the minimum Anticipatory Action Packages. This important meeting brought together the national working group in order to validate the key tools that guide the implementation of prior actions in case of risk, emergencies or disasters.
During the workshop, we also shared the lessons learned from the mock activation of the Early Action Plan (PAT) in case of possible floods caused by tropical cyclones. We celebrate these inter-institutional coordination spaces that strengthen preparedness and humanitarian response.
