DOS MARES DINING HALL

We are in the process of building a new Children’s Dining Hall in the Dos Mares community in Las Garzas. This project was made possible by the work of our volunteers, and thanks to the donation of solar panels, building materials, utensils, and kitchen equipment. We also received a generous donation consisting of a computer and a printer, which will allow children to use the dining hall as an educational space where they can complete their homework with the help of the person in charge of the dining hall, who is also a teacher.

MEDICAL INTERVENTION IN CURUNDU

In partnership with students from UDELAS University, we carried out a medical intervention at the Curudu Children’s Dining Hall, where specialists in ophthalmology and phonoaudiology evaluated children and elderly people.

Around 120 people received attention, being measured for weight, height, hearing, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and vision. Thanks to this initiative, we donated glasses to those who needed them.

We also shared a meal with the children and our volunteers. We were supported by a social worker, who will follow up on cases that require further care.

SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES IN NEED

Throughout September, we assisted four families in need in different regions of the country.

In collaboration with volunteers from the Hebrew Academy of Panama, we supported a family made up of a mother and her four children. We installed a front door, three windows, kitchen furniture, a stove, two fans, and a double mattress. We also equipped the home with utensils such as pots, plates, glasses, wipes, a blender, a microwave, clothing, hangers, and a printer for schoolwork.

Alongside volunteers from the Albert Einstein Institute, we helped a family with six children to improve their home’s safety and well-being. We built a security fence with cement blocks, delivered a natural gas tank for their kitchen, and shared moments with educational toys, a football, food, snacks, and diapers.

In Dos Mares, we joined efforts for William, a child with disability, and his family, with volunteers from the Hebrew Academy of Panama. We donated a stove, a refrigerator, clothing, and pillows. Lastly, we painted horses, William’s favorite animal, to decorate his room.

Finally, in Las Garzas, a group of volunteers came together to help Marta and her daughter, who is recovering from severe burns. We built a room with a roof and floor to provide them with a safe and dignified space. We also delivered a refrigerator and a gift card for a local supermarket, as well as shoes, a suitcase, and clothing donated by our community.

DENTAL BRIGADE

At the Curundu Children’s Dining Hall, we provided dental care in collaboration with three volunteers, two dentists, and the support of the Ministry of Health. We did check-ups on 50 children and identified urgent cases, which were referred to a local health center for their immediate attention.

We also held a workshop on dental care, where we taught proper brushing techniques and how to use floss and mouthwash. We delivered dental hygiene kits to every child we assisted.

Throughout this intervention, we were supported by a social worker, who verified that the caregivers of children in need of urgent care would take them to a health center.
