Mexico

We started operating in 2005 when we established our first office in Mexico City. Since then, our team has grown and expanded to other countries.

Why did we start in Mexico?

In 2005, after Hurricane Stan devastated Chiapas, five friends: Benjamin Laniado, Fernando Mitrani, Isaac Levy (Chapis), José Cattan, and Ari Syrquin, decided to organize and bring aid to the disaster zone.
This call to help resulted in the foundation of CADENA, which now responds to disasters and crises internationally.
Because of its geological characteristics, Mexico’s territory is susceptible to several phenomena, including hurricanes, earthquakes, intense rainfall, landslides, and volcanic activity. Mexico is also home to a great number of vulnerable populations.
Moreover, Mexico is a transit country through which, each year, thousands of people make their way to the United States. Migrant people are exposed to health and safety risks, as well as a lack of access to essential services.
Therefore, at CADENA Mexico, we continue assisting vulnerable populations in disasters and crises from various fronts, from emergency relief to prevention and resilience programs.
