ECOEDUCACIÓN TRANSFORMS RECYCLING INTO ACCESS TO SAFE WATER

Through Comunidad Iniciativa, on June 5th, we joined the Guatemala Oriente team in implementing ECOEDUCACIÓN – Phase I, a project developed during the 2025 National CADENA Initiative. At the INEB Telesecundaria Santa Inés Institute, students and teachers collected, sorted and weighed recyclable cans. These resources will be used to acquire filters, providing the school community with access to safe drinking water.

This first phase successfully collected 550 pounds of cans, which will directly benefit 125 students and will impact around 3,000 people in the community.

WE EVALUATED THE DROUGHT ANTICIPATORY ACTION PROJECT IN QUICHÉ

On June 8, at CADENA, Jewish Community of Guatemala we conducted the first day of evaluation activities for the Drought Anticipatory Action Project in Quiché. Using a Kobo form provided by CARE, we collected feedback from some of the families who benefited from the project’s implementation.

We also conducted post-implementation surveys for the second phase of the project, reaching 25% of the beneficiaries. This data will allow us to evaluate the outcomes of our actions, identify areas of improvement and strengthen future initiatives to reduce the impact of drought and protect the livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP TO ANTICIPATE DISASTERS

As part of the Start Ready Risk Pool 4 anticipatory actions, supported by Start Network, we accompanied the development of training modules 3 and 4 for the accreditation of the Local Coordinators for Disaster Reduction (COLRED) in the communities of Chupel, Los Hernández, and Rincón San Pedro, in San Miguel Chicaj, Baja Verapaz. These sessions, conducted by CONRED, strengthened the capacities of community leaders to identify risks, organize, and respond to possible emergencies.
